🌿🀍Framing up my Embroideries πŸ•Š️🌿

Up early to do some work in the garden while it was nice and cool.

By lunch time it was way too hot for me .So after lunch  I spent a couple of hours in the summer house framing up a couple of my embroideries .

I thought you might be interested to see how I am doing it .

After I have done this , I will stich a piece of cotton fabric to cover the back .

                 πŸ€  Here's my little Seraphim  🀍

Silk threads on Ecclesiastical brocade .

And crewel wool on linen ,  the Anglo-Saxon Trumpington Cross  .

Been busy in my vegetable garden . It has been so hot here on the Lizard . My hands rough from pulling weeds .

I won't be doing any embroidery with silk for a while . Need to do some serious hand pampering first .

A Puritan Maid 1645 - finished 🌿

I  could go on adding more and more detail to her , but I want to get on to my next project  .

I underlined her collar with Burnt Sienna to give the whole a lift  .

This was my brother's design . I hope he likes how I've brought her to life and I look forward to embroidering more of his work in the future .

It's a stormy weekend we're having here . Hope you are all keeping cosy and warm .

See you tomorrow with a new project . Love and hugs Debbie x

Angel wings πŸŒΏπŸ•Š️🌿

Making good progress , but I need to sharpen up one or two areas .

I'll do the vielle next .🎻🎼🎢🎢

I love how the angel's face appears to change expression as the light falls on it .

Angel Robes πŸŒΏπŸ•Š️🌿

Well here I am still dithering over which shade to embroider the Angel's robes .

The perfect shade would be the DMC cotton 976  but I want to do this in silk threads and I don't have a match with The Silk Mill skeins and unfortunately they are temporarily closed ....so next best are the two silks on spools , no idea what make they are nor how much is on them and the lightest skein is a lovely Silk Mill "golden maize".

I wasn't going to blend them being only a small piece , but now I'm thinking maybe I will after all . By "blend" I mean shade stitch . If I do that then I might have enough thread .

but then .... I might change my mind  ! πŸ˜ŠπŸŒΏπŸ•Š️ x

Angel Feet

I embroidered those Angelic toes last evening  .

Now trying to find the right shades of silk thread for the Angel's robes .

This might take me a bit longer to stitch !

Angel with Vielle

O.K. So now you can see it's an Angel playing a vielle (medieval violin ) .

It comes from a medieval book of hours that I found on Pinterest  -The British Library MS Viewer -1320 Maastrichter Stundenbuch f187v

The silk is so beautiful and shiny it is difficult to photograph , but I will do my best .

The silk thread I have used thus far is from The Silk Mill in France.

Gorgeous silk embroidery threads, so beautifully tightly twisted and labelled  ...I have been to afraid to open them up for fear of them becoming a totally tangled mess . But as it turns out they are with care , easy to use and to also twist up tidily again .

Carefully Stitching that Little Face 🌿

I started to stitch that little face .

Taking my time with this fine silk thread . Also taking lots of breaks to rest my eyes .

πŸ•Š️🌿Getting the face right πŸŒΏπŸ•Š️

Started another medieval piece . If I don't get the face right , then I just can't proceed  .

I think I'm happy with this little face πŸŒΏπŸ•Š️

The Censing Angel - Church of St Peter and St Paul - Cattistock - Dorset

This was one of the first things I stitched using silk thread .
The Censing Angel from the William Morris and Sir Edward  Burne-Jones  stained glass window  c.1882.The Church of St Peter and St  Paul Cattistock in Dorset .  I so love Pre-Raphaelite paintings and was just inspired to have a go at embroidering this .
My mother had given me a small collection of reels of the most beautiful  Japanese silk ....so fine but slippery and very difficult to work with ...I used it for the Angel's silken robe . I then embroidered the floral pattern over it .

I used DMC cotton for the background and some tiny seed beads for the stars .
I,m uncomfortable with using beads in my embroidery . Maybe I should  have worked French knots .

Some glittery gold thread for the thurible or incense burner .

My next piece of silk embroidery is going to take some time to do , I wont be putting it on here for a long while yet ...I prefer to go slowly . This is not a piece that I can easily carry around in my work bag .

I love to embroider Angels . When I embroidered my medieval Steeple Aston Cope Angel..time travelling back to C.1320 .. I used DMC embroidery cotton for no other reason than I have so much of it , having been much obsessed with cross stitch at the time !
I prefer surface hand embroidery now and mostly with crewel wool .
Anyway ... so now I,m dabbling with silk again .....and I also have another crewel project in mind ..well ... I have to have something to work on , that I can take out with me in my bag !  It is very calming for me .
Well , Winter has returned here in Mullion , although we did enjoy an ice cream down at the  Poldhu beach cafe this afternoon , we were all wrapped up . The sun was shining but there was a cold easterly breeze blowing ....we might have a touch more snow this week  . I,ve been dashing around the garden wrapping up my more tender plants ..and carrying in more logs for the fire ..not good for hands that want to stitch silk !  Keep warm all !

Shopping for braid .
