Still Deciding πŸ’›πŸŒΏ

Antique , vintage or new ?

                                  I can't make up my mind .

I really wanted to use these beautiful antique silk threads on something special .

All wound with such care on to these old calling cards and party invitations .

Pearsall's  .....just so gorgeous and was once considered the best !  I don't think they  make embroidery thread anymore . Maybe just silk thread for chaps who do fly fishing .....not sure  ? I don't have much of Pearsall's silk threads .

Beautiful DevereYarns and gorgeous Piper's Silk ...not sure if I have the right shade of yellow/gold .

Au ver a soie Paris .. I like .....but only have red at the moment ....don't want to buy any more .

So far I have used Silkmill ..... I love it ! Love Love Love it !
If I were to use it , would I have enough ?
I'm not sure and if I were to run out , the shop has been temporarily closed , so I would not be able to get any more of the same πŸ˜”

    Could I mix them all up ?  You wouldn't ...  but I might ... maybe . . . . .

               Angel wings ......

Angel wings it is !  Lovely Japanese silk thread !

I think I'm pretty much settled on my choices now .

Now all I need is peace and quiet and lots of time  .

Angel Wings Silk

I came to a bit of a stand still on my seraphim project . When I came to stitch the wings , I wasn't sure if I had enough thread  .

This order of the Heavenly Angels have six wings !

The gorgeous silk thread that I have been using is from The Silk Mill in France , which have temporarily closed  πŸ˜” boo hoo ...  So I had to find another , as close as possible to it .

I was lucky to find this little lot of Seta Reale thread on Ebay and the thread thickness size 30 looks to be a good match . I believe this silk thread is made in Hungary and is also difficult to find now .

                                                        So I'll give it a try ! πŸ€πŸ•Š️🌿

Preparing to use my silk embroidery threads

The time has come that I want to use my silk embroidery thread ....the thing is , it is so slippery smooth and delicate that I am trying not to handle it too much .
It will snag very easily if not handled with extreme care .  They do need a bit of discipline !
It is a completely different animal to the cotton embroidery threads !!!
I have gathered a small collection of these beautiful silk skeins and up until now I have wrapped them in tissue and stored them in these Tupperware boxes .
Now that I want to use them , it would be a better idea to have them out and  cut into lengths ready to use .  I have heard that these pasta racks are a good way to do this .

Wood-work is not really my thing !

After an hour or so ...but the dowels do not overhang the ends quite like in the picture on the box !  grrrr !

The picture on the box !

Anyway !....The dowels feel smooth to me , but the silk did not slide on as I had hoped . So I wrapped the dowels in tissue and twisted the ends .

                                                ......and this works !

I cant wait to use my silk embroidery threads .

I have some other makes and some gorgeous antique ones ..I will show you next time ...but these beauties are from The Silk Mill in France .

I am tying them on loosely like this .

They look so pretty ...... but it is time to pull those paper labels off !

I,d like to hear how you organise your silk embroidery threads ? How do you make them work for you ?
