Little Holiday in Charmouth -✨Little Angel came too ! πŸ’›

So we've had a nice little holibobs in both Somerset and Dorset, mainly to go dinosaur hunting in Charmouth which is in Dorset .

We stayed in a sweet little 18th century period cottage in Somerset ; which meant a very long drive to the beach , but husband decided it was reasonably priced and that it would be very well worth it .

We visited Montecute House , Bridport , Lyme Regis , Glastonbury , Burton Bradstock and Groves Nursery and of course Charmouth beach .

Because of the rainy weather and the country roads being unfamiliar to us , we always tried to get back to the cottage well before dark .

Then we would have our teatime in front of the woodburning stove , with cups of tea , sandwiches and cake .

Then I would leave him in the lounge watching his American football πŸ™„

I would go into the cosy and warm , little dining room , where I really enjoyed sitting at this lovely Georgian table sketching and doing my embroidery .

I had brought lots of things to do .... no internet, no radio , just the sound of the rain on the window .

These colourful embroidery doodlings are from a Hildegard von Bingen project I am doing .
Whoever would have thought such bright colours and patterns could be from the 12th century illustrations/artwork !
I love them very much  .

                                                      πŸ’›πŸ’š❤️      πŸ’›πŸ’š❤️

Naturally , my angel came too !

I wanted to finish the background .

I soon finished the background and decided to outline her angel wings .

I think it looks better now . I'm just going to do a little more work on her angel gown .

✨I do love embroidering Angels ✨πŸ’›✨ I was delighted to find this little Angel hanging up almost hidden behind the curtains in my bedroom !✨✨✨

I have been planning to start a Perpetual Botanical Watercolour Journal .

I have the journal , the paints the brushes and everything all ready to go at home but I just can't seem to get started .
I want to record the Snowdrops , the Mistletoe , the sweet lambs in the meadows and a tiny first Ladybird of the year .
I will try again when we get home .

I did manage to sketch and embroider this Snowdrop .

Almost finished ! ⚓

Took me a very long time to do all those lines ! It really makes a difference though .

I regret not using linen . This cotton gets very crumpled  .

I folded it over and hand stitched it into a little purse .

I hemmed the top , in readiness for inserting a simple drawstring  .

I have to put it aside for a while as I need to buy some drawstring cord or tape . Also I may add some tassels along the bottom of the purse ....but , I  haven't decided yet  .

So then , on to the next little project .......

My Little Early Medieval Embroidery Bag πŸ•Š️🌿

I embroidered a little more of this . I hand stitched it into a useful little needlework bag  .

I think it is just about done .

I may just embroider an initial or some small thing in the space where my scissors are in this picture .
I do have something in mind , so I will be coming back to this again soon .

I could also add something , maybe , to each end of the toggle .

It is perfect for just the few essentials I need when doing my embroidery .

Robin and me

A combination of it being a very busy time of getting my vegetable garden going again and also of not being well for a while .

I was carrying my needlework basket around with me everywhere we went , but just had no time at all to squeeze in any stitching .

I have had a couple of birds that have become quite tame and who would fly in for seeds and nuts . The Jackdaw who strangely visited every morning at around ten o'clock  , the blackbirds who come to me for grapes and a couple of Robins who love biscuit crumbs or suet pellets .

The Robins are very familiar with me ,always watching as I turn the earth in my garden , and hopping about my feet .

During the recent  coldest weather , one of the Robins has been coming to my hands for crumbs .

My heart almost stops as he flies in to me . He is the sweetest little soul in the garden . With the sweetest song πŸŽΆπŸŽ΅πŸŽΆπŸŽΆπŸ’šπŸŒΏ

I did a little scribbly pencil sketch of him and later on I thought I might embroider it .

I'm still not sure whether to use crewel wool , cotton or silk . . . or even to just leave it as it is .

I made a little start . . . but . . .

I'm still thinking about it .

         πŸ’☀️πŸ•Š️     Happy Spring to everyone . .

or maybe it is Happy Autumn for some down under 🍁❄️πŸ‚πŸŒ™

Whatever it is for you , be inspired !

Of Sea Monsters , Ships and Mermaids ⚓

As tempting as it is for me to start filling this in .  I think I am going to hold back for now on that . I  think that just this simple outline will work for what I am doing .

This is for a family history project that I'm working on .

I need time to stand back and think about it . The other fish in my last project just wasn't right .
I think this one is more appropriate  .
I think my husband's Great Grandfather would like this one .

Looking forward to doing something a bit different now for a while  .

Of Sea Monsters , Ships and Mermaids

Oh ! These dark and dreary , stormy winter days !

....and the last few days here in the U.K. have been particularly stormy and cold .

I have Sweet Peppers and Passion flower seeds germinating on my bedroom windowsill  and in the surrounding fields of Cornwall the daffodils are beginning to bloom . Spring will soon be here , the flowers know !

While the wind is rattling the roof tiles , rain lashing against the windows ....

I am snuggled up on my bed with two hot-water bottles , a bundle of wool and another fishy project on the go .

It is another piece for a family history project I'm working on . This fish is from an antique sea-faring map . It is slightly different to the last one I was working on , which turned out lovely , but too much like a koi carp .

Hopefully the colours I've chosen this time will be more suitable .

I may not fill it all in this time . Maybe just do the outline .

I'll just go with the flow and see what happens .

                                                                  🌿⚓🌿

🌿 Just quietly stitching 🐬🌿

I am taking a little break , due to getting a teeny tiny thorn in my finger . It is not serious .....just a flipping nuisance !

Hoping to be back to doing my embroidery again very soon  .

🌿🀍Framing up my Embroideries πŸ•Š️🌿

Up early to do some work in the garden while it was nice and cool.

By lunch time it was way too hot for me .So after lunch  I spent a couple of hours in the summer house framing up a couple of my embroideries .

I thought you might be interested to see how I am doing it .

After I have done this , I will stich a piece of cotton fabric to cover the back .

                 πŸ€  Here's my little Seraphim  🀍

Silk threads on Ecclesiastical brocade .

And crewel wool on linen ,  the Anglo-Saxon Trumpington Cross  .

Been busy in my vegetable garden . It has been so hot here on the Lizard . My hands rough from pulling weeds .

I won't be doing any embroidery with silk for a while . Need to do some serious hand pampering first .
