As I come to the end of my little angel piece , I have been thinking what to do next . With the Feast of Christmas fast approaching , I think I will wait until the New Year before starting something new .
I have several things in mind though .
I had some time today to mess about and try to fix a vintage pin-cushion that I bought on Ebay .
I pulled out all the rusting pins and needles , pulled it apart and threw away the cover and the sawdust that was inside it .
It really didn't smell very nice .
I gave the silver plated base a polish , I didn't take a before photo of it , but let me tell you it was the darkest grey .
I cut out a nice fresh piece of red cotton velvet ......
....... stuffed it with some snipped up waste fabric and lashed it down underneath.
Then realised that I had to make a hole through it all , in which to pull it altogether with an ugly looking screw .
Sigh .......began to wish I hadn't started all this !
Anyway , I found my beautiful awl , still on the table from when I was doing the little bit of goldwork plunging the other day . ( sometimes it pays off not being tidy ! ) and by some miracle I managed to get it perfectly in line through the precious red velvet and into the hole on the underside and all through another hole that goes between the cushion and the base and through the hole in the silver plated base itself , then remove the awl and get the screw through it all.. done it ....hip hip hooray !
Next I had to cover the head of that ugly looking screw . It may have had something attached atop of it once apon a time . So I cut out a small circle of velvet ......
....and slip stitched it in place .
I might decorate it with some beads ...hmm .... may be ..maybe not ....
Maybe I don't love it that much after all ! 😱 .... 🤣
Oh ! I stitched the strings onto the Angel's vielle . I almost forgot to show you .
Now I really must get back to writing Christmas cards .
