Twinkle Twinkle Little Star - Comet Neowise Embroidery

Have you been lucky enough to see the beautiful comet that has  been in the night sky this month ? Under the constellation Ursa major .
Comet Neowise ....sadly it wont be back again in my life time ....my brother suggested that I paint or embroider it to remember it by .
It really is a beautiful comet with two tails , although the second tail is just a very thin line . The scientists with their super duper telescopes say that it looks green and blue , but I couldn't see those colours .
By eye I could see it as a blurry streak in the night sky . With my binoculars it looks amazing , white with a hint of orange and that thin line of a second tail .
I found a 15th/16th century woodcut picture of what is probably Haley's comet and thought that would be perfect . I think I will stitch it not as a wood cut picture , but in my own way and with the colours that I could see and add the second tail .
Coincidentally the other day , a friend of mine shared a picture of another early wood cut , this time of the Seal of Helston  - St Michael and  the Dragon .

St Michael is the Patron Saint of Helston and also the name of our little church in Mullion . Loving all things medieval , I knew as soon as I saw it that I just have to embroider it !
So I drew that out too , already to stitch on my linen . I,m not sure though, just  yet . I might do this one slightly bigger .

I used the wrong pencil ....a 5B ... much too soft and smudgy ...but since I am sitting in the summerhouse on this hot summer's day and  I am  feeling too lazy to walk back to the cottage and go upstairs to fetch another pencil . I thought it would be o.k to stitch over and it's only a doodle anyway .......

......... but it did smudge and made the wool look grubby ugh !
I usually use a 2B pencil and it works just fine for  me . So please take this as a lesson .
Yes you can use a regular pencil to draw your designs with ,  but don't use any softer than a 2B pencil .

So I then stitched over the top of the wool with a vintage Anchor Pearl Cotton thread quite thick and with a lovely sheen .

It is looking so much better now !I have no idea how this is going to turn out .       I,m just lazily doodling along , feeling sleepy in the hot sunshine , enjoying a nice and cool bitter lemon drink . Just thought you'd like to see what I,m up to .... not a lot really !
Hope you are enjoying the lovely sunshine !
